Houston Film Critics Society: Best of 2011

According to the Houston Film Critics Society, not even an ounce of high-quality bud could make one enjoy the James Franco/Natalie Portman medieval stoner fantasy Your Highness, which it voted worst picture of 2011. But the group will celebrate better cinematic achievements during today’s Houston Film Critics Society: Best of 2011 awards ceremony. The group picked The Descendentsfor Best Picture, Michael Fassbender for Best Actor (Shame) and Tilda Swinton for Best Actress (We Need to Talk About Kevin), among other categories, some specifically for Texas independent cinema and filmmakers.

The Society also will present a special Lifetime Achievement Award to former Houston resident Jeff Bridges, and a Humanitarian Award to philanthropist Joanne King Herring (played by Julia Roberts in Charlie Wilson’s War). 4 p.m. The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet.
