Gallery Sonja Roesch is celebrating more than two decades in business with “12/21, Accrochage 2012: Celebrating 21 years.” The exhibition may be the most difficult Roesch has ever assembled, because she’ll be including work from most of the artists the gallery has shown. The mix of artists accounts for the show’s title: accrochage is French for both a coupling and a collision. While all the artists work in the reductive style, the commonality stops there.
One artist sure to be a highlight is German-based Mario Reis. In previous exhibits at the gallery, he showed series of canvases that had been submerged in rivers and streams around the globe. Because of the specific combination of minerals, pollution and water, each location left a unique color on the canvases. Among the other participating artists are Houstonians Myke Venable and Jonathan Leach.
