The Sundance Film Festival, headed by megastar Robert Redford, is one of the most popular in the world. But everyone can’t make it out to Utah for the screenings, so the festival is exporting some of its treasures to various cities, giving everyone a chance to see some of the films on offer. Houstonians will have the opportunity to see Leslye Headland’s Bachelorette. Based on her off-Broadway play about the Seven Deadly Sins, it tells the story of women who are turning 30 but still leery of growing up.

Three mean girls throw an impromptu bachelorette party and, fueled by champagne, coke and randy sex, savage the absent bride-to-be, then trash the hotel room and each other. The six-character play has been beefed up for the screen to include relatives and assorted strippers, a bit of Sex and the City meets The Hangover.
Kirsten Dunst stars as Regan, the meanest of meanies, with Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan as junior bridezillas, while James Marsden, Adam Scott and Kyle Bornheimer supply the casual sex. The New York Times described the original play as “scarifying…a generational malaise as witheringly funny as it is bitterly sad.” The film is sure to be more of the same.
Co-producers Matt Parker and Carly Hugo will introduce the film and host a Q&A after the screening. 7:30 pm. Sundance Cinemas Houston, 510 Texas. For information, call 713-223-3456 or visit www.sundancecinemas.com. $17.
