The story focuses on Lewis’s tender love affair with poet Joy Gresham. The two met when he was late-middle-aged; she was much younger. She had written to him as a fan, and the two became fast friends before he began to realize his true feelings for her.

Nicholson starts the play with a lecture by Lewis on why God allows us to suffer. Lewis, who was an ardent believer, tells us, “The blows of his chisel, which hurt us so much, are what make us perfect.” The story that follows shows just how much pain the chisel of life can inflict on the human heart. 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays.
