The sweet strains of melodic death-metal invade Warehouse Live this week as Finland's Children of Bodom hit Houston on their ongoing tour behind last year's Relentless, Reckless Forever. The band formed in 1993, but debut LP Something Wild didn't hit until 1997. The album nonetheless set the tone for the band's now nearly 20-year history, mixing power-metal riffs with stray electronic glitches while also showing a passing nod to thrash. Something Wild also introduced fans to the ever-present reaper character who has made an appearance on every COB disc to come since, wielding his scythe with a bony fist. Be sure to seek out the group's 2009 covers album, Skeletons in the Closet, featuring covers of the usual suspects like Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden and Sepultura. COB also shines on left-field covers of acts like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kenny Rogers & the First Edition and, yes, even Britney Spears's pop chestnut "Oops!... I Did It Again."
