Soul Nite 2012

Did you wish you’d gotten to see James Brown and Wilson Pickett live in concert while they were still alive? Aurora Picture Show and Peter Lucas can offer the next best thing with Soul Nite 2012. Drawing on his work as curator for the Northwest Film Forum in Seattle, Lucas has collected high-quality live performance videos of great 1960s artists — like Brown, Pickett, Sam & Dave, Barbara Lynn and Rufus Thomas — and prepared them for live showings. All the concerts in his collection are live, no lip syncs allowed, and offer Houstonians the closest thing you could get to attending an actual concert with the giants of a half century past. “It’s high-quality video and high-quality audio, it’s cranked up, and there’s beer,” he told the Houston Press in 2010 about another screening of the film. “It’s kind of the best vibe ever.”
