Alabama

Feels So Right: Alabama returns to RodeoHouston for the first time in nine years.
Feels So Right: Alabama returns to RodeoHouston for the first time in nine years.

It's common to see groups like Lady Antebellum and The Band Perry at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo these days, but Alabama once had that revolving stage all to themselves. Now down to the three-piece of Randy Owen, Jeff Cook and Teddy Gentry, Alabama toiled in the clubs of its home state until the dawn of the '80s, when their blend of nice-guy Southern soft-rock and close country harmonies began turning heads outside Dixie as well. Hit after cockle-warming hit, most of them directed at the ladies, followed until Alabama owned practically every sales and box-office record in country music history. They hung it up after 2003's "Farewell Tour" (including their last Houston rodeo appearance), a retirement that lasted all of three years, until 2006 gospel LP Songs of Inspiration. Alabama has enough hits to fill out their allotted slot two or three times over, but you probably can count on "The Closer You Get," "Mountain Music," "Song of the South" and, naturally, "If You're Gonna Play In Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle In the Band)" to make the cut.
