Michael Berry's Bad Week
Cops and a gay bar
KTRH's Michael Berry, a right-wing radio screamer, had himself some week.
TV station KPRC (Channel 2) reported that he was under investigation for a hit-and-run incident in January. No charges have been filed, but what raised eyebrows was where it occurred: Outside a Montrose gay bar Berry had been drinking in.
TC's Showbar was having a drag show the night of January 31, and security cameras showed Berry sipping a beer inside.
The TV report said Berry left the bar around 11 p.m., drove in reverse for 70 feet and hit a car owned by the club's bouncer, which is always a bad move. An internal HPD memo obtained by the station says, "The suspect is Michael Berry, a local radio talk show host."
We asked Berry to comment, and he said, "Wish I could, but cannot."
We did tune in his show the morning after the news broke to see if he was addressing the report. He didn't, but did say, "I don't claim to speak for crackheads and welfare queens," which didn't seem related to the incident.
Berry, a former city councilman, is your prototype fire-breathing Obama-hating right-wing talk show host. He earned nationwide attention (and, mostly, contempt) two years ago when he said of the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque": "I'll tell you this — if you do build a mosque, I hope somebody blows it up...I hope the mosque isn't built, and if it is, I hope it's blown up, and I mean that."
He told us at the time, "I am passionate that building a mosque on that site is an affront to the families of victims," and on his blog somehow argued that he was not advocating bombing the mosque.
An occasional guest on his radio show is controversial drag performer Shirley Q. Liquor, who has been criticized for being racist.
The HPD investigation is continuing, and Berry has hired noted defense attorney Dick DeGuerin as his lawyer.
A few days after the report, he finally addressed it on his show, to some degree. He did not talk about the hit and run; instead, he bashed gaybashers.
He said the "gay bar" aspects were highlighted to feed a "conservatives hate gays" theme in media.
"I don't bash gays," he said. "In fact, I bash people who bash gays," citing Karl Rove.
"GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT, YOU STUPID FOOLS," he shouted to "gay activists." "YOU WANT PEOPLE TO HATE YOU. I have never hated gay people; in fact, I've gone the exact opposite direction...I don't have to bash gays to prove I'm not one," he said.
Imitating a questioner, he said ""Michael, why would you go into a gay bar?"
He answered himself "I didn't. I went into a bar. There were gay people inside. Why did I go into a bar? Let me confess: 'Cause there was cold beer waiting inside...Would it have been better if I was at a strip club?"
He said he went into TC's Showbar because he didn't want to be bothered and the bar was a place where no one knew his name.
• "Pepsi woman, trust me, what Elton wants is NOT what you got. #GRAMMYS"
• "Is that a dude or a woman on the far right? #GRAMMYS"
• "Katy, I don't mean to be rude. Believe me. But your boobs are not worthy of being jiggled on national tv. U ain't even had kids & they bad."
QB's Ex-Wife Arrested for Public Sex
By Richard Connelly
Moon, 55, was arrested near Hockley for having public sex with a man we presume to have been at least for the moment her boyfriend, 50-year-old James Thomas. (Her Facebook page shows that they're "in a relationship.")
There are not many details beyond what's in the charge itself, so we don't know the exact nature of what was going on or just how public it was.
But the trail boss was pretty blasé about it all, which means this is one trail ride that knows how to party.
"Well, they were out on the field, so whatever," Nannie Francies told KHOU. "I don't see it as a big deal. When people go out on the trail, people tend to do what they want to do."
You said it, Nannie.
Felicia and Warren had a sometimes stormy marriage. They were married in 1981 and divorced 21 years later. Moon was arrested for assaulting her at one point, but she refused to press charges. The Fort Bend County DA went ahead with the case anyway, and the quarterback was acquitted of a misdemeanor.
Felicia Moon has been active in church activities. According to one profile:
Felicia took her blend of faith and courage along with her tragedies and famous name and turned it into Exhibit Hope. Hope for others, that there is a tomorrow and that there is something better for all of us and she is the example. Her message through is "never give up, there is always hope, no matter how ugly...there is always hope in Jesus." This is where Felicia Moon is!
Her Valentine's Day message on her FB page:
Happy Valentine's Day to all of the REAL MEN who know how to show love to their lady 365 days a year. You are a rare jewel. I hope she appreciates you.
Yes, he is always making racial statements towards blacks. Always finding fault in someone else. Now he's in the hot seat and still ignores he is at fault, how about that.
