Il Trovatore

Filled with intrigue and suspense, Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore closes the season for Opera in the Heights. A salacious delight, the opera has all the trappings of historical fiction — an abundance of family drama, revenge and a tangled love affair. The Count di Luna and Manrico, the troubadour, both love the beautiful Leonora. She favors the romantic Manrico for his seductive, late-night serenades, but trials of the heart are only the beginning of this tale.

Two Texas women, Michelle Johnson and Lara Tillotson, alternate in the lead role of the much-desired Leonora. Johnson, a Pearland native, was a recent winner of the coveted Metropolitan Opera’s National Council Auditions. Opera in the Heights fans may remember Tillotson from her previous work with the company; she performed the title role in 2008’s Tosca. Enrique Carreón-Robledo, OH’s artistic director, will be at the podium. 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Through March 24. Lambert Hall, 1703 Heights. For information, call 713‑861‑5303 or visit www.operaintheheights.org. $10 to $55.
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 15. Continues through March 24, 2012
