To be or not to…oh, wait, that’s the wrong playwright. We’re talking about another master, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee, although being and not being is still at the center of the plot. Albee’s 2008 Me, Myself & Iis presented here by Edge Theatre, and Albee himself has been supervising the production long-distance. “He came down and approved our cast,” says Jim Tommaney, Edge Theatre’s artistic director (also a theater critic for the Houston Press).

He calls the play a wonderful comedy, adding that it’s also a strange and wonderfully absurd story. It features a pair of identical twins named OTTO and otto. “One of the twins announces that he’s going to go to China and become Chinese,” says Tommaney. Even stranger, he tells his mother that his twin no longer exists. You’ll have to see the show to see how it all turns out, but we can say the ending involves panthers, a chariot, a handful of emeralds and yet another Otto — and it’s all wonderfully Albee. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through March 18. Midtown Arts Center, 3414 LaBranch. For information, call 832‑894‑1843. $10 to $20.
