A Little Night Music

The Houston Symphony will be showcasing a trio of gentle works in A Little Night Music. The program's title comes from a loose translation of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, one of the pieces to be performed. The work's opening allegro is one of the most famous classical works in the world and has been featured in countless films, whenever a graceful atmosphere of class and elegance is required.

More About

Also on the program is Mozart’s Serenade No. 10 for 13 winds, Gran Partita, which pulses with quiet dignity and is near-hypnotic, as well as Stravinsky’s Apollon Musagète. Scored for strings by an undisputed master of early 20th century music, Apollon was based around the ascendance of Apollo, the Greek god of music, light, and leader of the Muses who bestowed inspiration to artists. Stravinsky’s languid, ethereal music perfectly captures the god's story of Apollo. 8 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-227-3974 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. $25 to $123.
Thu., March 22; March 24-25, 2012
