This weekend brings the Menil Community Arts Festival, when the museum teams up with neighboring community organizations for a heaping helping of culture — free. Not only will the Menil’s regular exhibits be on view, there will also be extra art on display courtesy of the Houston Center for Photography and the Watercolor Art Society.
Expect several performances — including Valerie Hartzell’s classical guitar concert inside the Rothko Chapel, as well as a Family Drum Circle courtesy of Da Camera — and SWAMP will be screening The Territory. The whole thing takes places alongside the Indie Book Festival, which features readings by five different authors. In other words, there should be something for just about everybody. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Menil Collection, 1515 Sul Ross, and surrounding grounds. For information, call 713-525-9400 or visit www.menil.org.
