CORE is taking on the new exhibit “REVELATION: Major Paintings by Jules Olitski,” now at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. In the company’s twelfth collaboration with the museum, CORE presents its brand-new performance, The Flow of Color, which will explore Olitski’s art through dance. “We’re really looking at the artist’s intent,” said Sue Schroeder, artistic director of CORE, which is now in its thirty-first year. This isn’t about drawing inspiration from the work, then, but actually translating it into a different medium. After heavily researching Olitski, CORE created a chronological five-section piece that highlights his career trajectory: stain paintings, spray paintings, Baroque, High Baroque and later works.
As with Olitski’s work, expect color to play a vibrant part. “Our charge is to give the audience some other information about the exhibition,” -Schroeder said — and they do, in leaps and bounds. 6:30 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet.
