More About

Artist Ai Weiwei is regularly making headlines these days for his run-ins with the Chinese government. He was arrested and detained last year for “alleged economic crimes” (translation: He’s outspoken, famous and openly opposes state-sponsored censorship). “Ai Weiwei’s Five Houses,” currently making its U. S. premiere at Architecture Center Houston, is his first new architectural project since his detainment. Made up of scale models, this is Ai’s interpretation of an entire house as a work of art, from the architecture to the furniture. Each aspect of the home is a reflection of Ai’s vision, blending art and architecture. There’s an opening reception — without the artist — from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on April 19. Regular viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays. Through May 25. 315 Capitol. For information, call 713-520-0155 or visit www.aiahouston.org. Free.
Mondays-Fridays. Starts: April 19. Continues through May 25, 2012
