Corella Ballet Castilla y León

Houston audiences will be happy to see that the Corella Ballet Castilla y León has Clear on the schedule for their one-night stint at Jones Hall. Choreographed by Stanton Welch in 2001 for American Ballet Theatre, where Corella Ballet’s founder and star Angel Corella was then a soloist, Clear is a stark, spare piece inspired by the events surrounding 9/11. Set to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, it explores the idea of connectedness and features several bare-chested male dancers wearing nude-colored pants.

More About

The evening’s program also includes Solea, a fiery pas de deux that mixes ballet and flamenco performed by Corella and his sister Carmen, who was also a soloist with ABT. The piece was created for the Corella siblings’ strengths: He executes endless leaps and rapid-fire pirouettes (including a string of 16 in quick succession), while she performs stylized flamenco moves en pointe. 8 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana.
