6th Annual Palestine Film Festival

The films coming out of the Middle East today are impressive. That’s readily apparent in the 2012 Palestine Film Festival. With multiple screenings over the next two weekends, the festival starts off with Man Without a Cell Phone, which will be introduced by director Sameh Zoabi. It tells the story of Jawdat, a cool-cat concrete worker living in a Palestinian village inside Israel whose simple pleasures include partying with friends and looking for love, all the while having his mobile phone permanently attached to his ear. When Jawdat’s father becomes convinced that the Israeli-owned cell phone tower is slowly poisoning people with radiation, suddenly the phrase “Can you hear me now?” takes on a whole new meaning.

Man Without a Cell Phone screens at 7 p.m. on May 12. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For a full schedule, call 713-639-7300 or visit www.mfah.org/films.
Sat., May 12, 7 p.m., 2012
