Pasadena Strawberry Festival

Strawberries aren’t really berries. It’s counterintuitive, but it’s true. They are actually flowering plants from the rose family genus Fragaria. But The Fragaria Festival doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, so fans celebrate all things sweet, plump and red at the annual Pasadena Strawberry Festival instead. In addition to a sampling of just about every way to cook, slice, drink, taste or wear a strawberry, there’s a full slate of country, blues and roots-rock performers including the Randy Rogers Band, Luther and the Healers, and the Slags.

The festival also features a beauty pageant, barbecue contest and a kids’ adventure zone. And for the adventurous there’s the mud volleyball tournament. (We admit that doesn’t sound like it has much to do with strawberries, but we’re willing to overlook that.) 3 p.m. to midnight Friday, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. 7603 Red Bluff Road. For information, call 281-991-9500 or visit www.strawberryfest.org.
