With Amber Digby & Caleb Williams, 7 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Nutty Jerry's, 18291 Englin Rd., Winnie, 877-643-7508 or www.nuttyjerrys.com.
Say what you will about Nutty Jerry's proximity to Houston, owner Jerry Nelson and his staff have been bringing in some marquee, legendary acts well worth the drive east to his arena way out in Winnie. Already, Chuck Berry, Merle Haggard and Jerry Lee Lewis dot the venue's short history, and the list of fan-favorite country acts that have played the restaurant and music venue isn't anything to snort at. As time marches on, chances to see these folks dwindle. Don Williams is lined up for the end of the year, and the Judds played there just last August on what was reported to be their final "final" farewell tour. Country pioneer Loretta Lynn, the "Blue Kentucky Girl," still packs a room, and her following is still as fervent as it was decades ago, now encompassing tattooed lasses as well as their grandmothers. Lynn has slowed down at her age, and performs most of her sets from a golden chair, but that can't contain the power of hits like "Fist City," "The Pill" and "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)."
