Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-ass Wit of Molly Ivins

Few people have inhabited the Texas spirit and sense of humor as completely as liberal newspaper columnist and author Molly Ivins. Now that spirit and humor hit the stage in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-ass Wit of Molly Ivins. She grew up in Houston (we raise ’em sassy here), but spent most of her adult life in Austin writing for The Texas Observer, The Dallas Times Herald and The New York Times.

Mounted by Main Street Theater, Red Hot features Sara Gaston as Molly Ivins, a “bold, smart, determined woman who never forgot to laugh,” according to MST Executive Artistic Director Rebecca Greene Udden. “This play deftly captures her indomitable spirit and tells it like it is — just like she did.”

Preview performances are June 9 and 10; opening night is June 14. 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays. (No Friday performances.) Through July 1. Main Street Theater, 4617 Montrose. For information, call 713‑524-6706 or visit www.mainstreettheater.com.
Sat., June 9; Sun., June 10; Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: June 9. Continues through July 1, 2012
