9th Annual Media Archeology Festival, Media Archeology 2012: Real Time

The 9th Annual Media Archeology Festival, Media Archeology 2012: Real Time, would need a much, much longer name in order to clearly state its scope. It would have to be the 9th Annual Music, Film, Art and Performance Artists That Meld Images and Sound Through Electronic Media Festival. That’s a bit too cumbersome, so we don’t blame them for going with the name they chose.

Spread over three nights and two locations, the festival starts on Thursday with a party and films by Semiconductor, the UK-based artist duo of Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. The pair’s animated films include Retropolis, a dizzying journey through an imaginary city.

On Friday, there’s a performance by the Heart Chamber Orchestra, made up of members of Two Star Symphony and TERMINAL-BEACH. As they play, the musicians will wear electrocardiogram sensors. Their heartbeats will be electronically translated into images on a large overhead screen.

On Saturday, Nameless Sound presents Text of Light, an exciting reinterpretation of the films of Stan Brakhage with four musicians providing a live, improvised soundtrack.

7:30 p.m. Thursday at Aurora Picture Show, 2442 Bartlett. Free. 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex, 2442 Bartlett.
Sept. 20-22, 7:30 p.m., 2012
