''Because I Love You''

People have martyred themselves in the name of love since the beginning of time: Antony and Cleopatra, Héloïse and Abélard, and who could forget Romeo and Juliet? The Blue Dozen Collective, a crew of street artists, graphic designers, painters, printmakers, tattoo artists and installation artists, will put imagery to this masochistic tendency with ''It’s Because I Love You,'' a collaborative exhibition opening at East End Studio Gallery.

“The exhibition is about the things people do to each other in the name of love,” said Bryan Cope, curator of the exhibit and co-founder of Blue Dozen Collective. Since the collective is made up of different kinds of artists, it only makes sense that the exhibition will showcase various mediums. The artworks will include mixed media, paintings and installations. Cope will contribute his own stencil-based street art, which he creates under his “paint as many walls as you can” philosophy. There’s an opening reception 6 to 11 p.m. on August 17. Gallery hours are by appointment only. Through August 31. 708 Telephone Road.
Mondays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 17. Continues through Aug. 31, 2012
