Hayao Miyazaki fans are quickly becoming Makoto Shinkai fans as well. In the anime master's epic film Children Who Chase Lost Voices, a young girl reeling from the death of her father is left alone for much of the time by her mother, who's working long shifts to make ends meet. The girl suddenly begins to hear mysterious music coming from the crystal radio her father left her. Thus starts an adventure that eventually leads her to the Land of the Dead. The film is breathtakingly beautiful. Not since Grave of the Fireflies has a more touching animated story come out of Japan.
