There's a bigger chance of you being hit by lighting than there is of you not having read — and loved — Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat as a child. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid even quoted it in a speech in 2007… proof positive it's a seminal and iconic work of literature. Main Street Theatre is proud to present a stage adaptation of the classic starring Lindsay Ehrhardt as The Cat. Children are "going to see all [their] favorite characters and have fun with them! [They] will see the Cat's wacky antics, the zany Things 1 and 2, the Boy and the Girl — and [they] will go on a silly, fun journey!" said Main Street spokesperson Shannon Emerick by e-mail. Director Jef Johnson, who happens to be a professional clown, among other things, is bringing a great sense of whimsy to the production. Ehrhardt says playing the legendary feline is fun. "The best part of playing The Cat is getting to have fun and be goofy! The Cat comes into this house and just does whatever he (she? it?) wants, which I think we all kind of have a secret desire to do sometimes — just throw caution and convention to the wind and play in our surroundings. It's a lot of fun to explore and be a mischief-maker, since it's not something I typically get to do in the real world."
