Daniel Clowes's comic Ghost World starring Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi follows two recent high school graduates with nothing to do except play pranks. One prank has unintended consequences as one of the girls (Birch) becomes infatuated with a middle-aged record collector (Buscemi).
''I think there's something timeless about Ghost World's story,'' said Alamo Drafthouse's Robert Saucedo by e-mail. ''A lot of us have known what it is like to feel out of place and unsure of where we belong in our community, among our friends and among our family. Ghost World — underneath all its cynicism — captures a lot of that longing and loneliness, and I think that is what people still respond to.''
The folks over at Alamo Drafthouse are hosting a collector's swap meet to accompany the screening. Fans are encouraged to bring comic books, records, video games and other treasures for an adult version of show-and-tell, show-and-trade in the lobby before the show.
