Filmmaker Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) went to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to make a film about the storm’s devastation of the city. He told that story by chronicling the life of one amazing, resilient woman in the film I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad, and the Beautiful. Parker was one of the last people to evacuate the Holy Cross neighborhood as the waters rose, and was initially pronounced dead when no one could find her after the storm. She spent the next five years rebuilding her home and local Catholic Church while being an outspoken advocate against the government’s mishandling of the disaster.
