Ice Carving Competition

Artists will be working with chainsaws, blow torches and razor sharp chisels at the fifth annual Ice Carving Competition. Ice artists from across the country will spend five hours crafting sculptures from giant ice slabs made of over a thousand gallons of recycled rainwater. Last year the Snowflake Sculptors outcarved 11 other teams and managed to clinch the $5,000 first prize with Justice, a magnificent Grecian-style statue of an Amazonian warrior holding aloft a sword mounted on an equally elaborate carved base. Meanwhile, The Blizzard Wizards captured the Culture Map People's Choice Award with their narrative piece featuring Frank the Rabbit from the film Donnie Darko confronting a giant snake in a cacti-ridden desert.
