''Maya 2012: Prophecy Becomes History''

You know that the world is gonna end, right? According to the Mayan calendar, the last day of life as we know it is scheduled for December 21. At ''Maya 2012: Prophecy Becomes History,'' a new exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, you'll learn the real truth behind the amazingly accurate calculations made by the Mayans so long ago. Despite being a Stone Age people, they developed mathematics and writing systems that were the most advanced in the New World. Using an insanely complex set of astronomical indicators, the Mayan calendar is accurate from the time when they believed the world was created (around 3,100 BCE) all the way up to October 13, 4772. It's their dating system that is the heart of the exhibit, but artifacts and the history of the Mayan people are also explored. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays through Sundays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Through March 31.
Oct. 26-March 31, 2012
