Nikki Palomino: Dazed

Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. At one point that was a battle cry for hip young people everywhere, but as the glitter of the 1980s was swept up by the grunge movement of the 1990s, the rock music world could no longer endure the weight of its own facade. Big-haired glam rockers and their fans were replaced by purposefully shabby, excessively moody musicians and their followers. Writer Nikki Palomino was one of those grunge musicians, and in Dazed, she tells a story that lays bare the pain of drug dependency and artistic temperament. Her protagonist, Eric Peterson, is an obvious stand-in for the likes of Kurt Cobain and others who lost their light to the push of a needle. Adding to Eric’s intense ballet of self-destruction is his troubling love for his roommate Brian. The question is, is that love powerful enough to pull Eric out of the grave he’s digging for himself? Nikki Palomino reads from and signs Dazed today.
