Magic and music join forces in Andy Pape’s eight-scene Houdini the Great. Bayou Bend’s beautiful Diana Garden serves as the lush background to this year’s Opera Under the Stars offering. Houdini the Great follows illusionist and escape artist Harry Houdini as he risks everything to earn a spot in the limelight. Onstage, he impresses audiences with his impossible escape tricks. Offstage, he struggles with his beautiful (and unfaithful) wife, his dominating mother and his own zealous pursuit of the perfect illusion. The opera is being presented by Opera Vista in partnership with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. 8 p.m. 6003 Memorial. For information, call 713-581-8250 or visit www.operavista.org. $30 to $35.
