Cathy Rigby, the former world champion gymnast and Olympian who transformed herself into an actress and stage performer, has unretired from her role as the boy who would never grow up and is headed back to Houston to star in Peter Pan. ''If I can do it better and if I can do it fresh and I can do the flying more spectacular than ever, then maybe one more time,'' she said she told herself. ''We’ve added more flying and the sword fighting is a little more dangerous,'' she added, explaining that instead of just a single harness allowing for pendulum swings, she now also has a double harness attached to each hip that allows her to flip through the air. Rigby isn't the only star in this production brought to Houston by Theatre Under the Stars. Broadway performer Brent Barrett (Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun) takes on the Mr. Darling/Hook role. Still, it's hard not to be amazed at Rigby — she'll turn 60 during the show's Houston run (on December 12) and is still doing cartwheels, handsprings and handstands. ''I think it even surprises me to be able to fly and flip and jump around. It's not that we all live forever. It proves to me you can still do things, that you may limit yourself and think it's impossible but it doesn't have to be.'' But note that Rigby says this is - absolutely the last, last time she'll soar over an audience, so this is also your last, last time to see her.
