When it comes to music, Pixar films are not in any way messing around. Since Toy Story was released in 1995, the studio's films have garnered three Academy Awards and nine more nominations for their scores or original songs. That's why it's such a treat to hear the Houston Symphony present Pixar in Concert. The symphony will play selections from every Pixar release up to Monsters University. Admittedly, that's a whole lot of Randy Newman in one night, but you'll also get to hear a truly epic rendition of Patrick Doyle's work on Brave and Michael Giacchino's big brass superhero marches from The Incredibles. The best bet on the list may be from Giacchino's score for Up. The CD version just can't do the large dynamic range of the compositions justice; this is one of the few times you'll get to hear the work done properly. All songs are accompanied by animation shown on a big screen suspended over the stage.
