The fact that all the artists in ''Present Tense'' are women isn't the point, according to exhibition curator and participating artist Sapphire Williams. The point is the fact that all of the artists are producing exciting work. ''I don't want people to confine their work to being women's work. I want people to see them as artists making interesting and relevant work,'' Williams tells us. ''I really feel as if they are making work independent of their sex. No politics, just their personal ideas and issues. We are all dealing with the push and pull between the past and present. Whether it's appropriating imagery from the past or finding ways to deal with personal histories, it seems to be a reoccurring issue.''
