More About

When two of Houston's most loved dance troupes join forces for one concert, it's a party that's not to be missed. That's the case with squared dancer, a collaboration between Houston Metropolitan Dance Company and Hope Stone Dance Company staged at the Wortham Center's Cullen Theater. The concert's title takes its name from the world premiere of Jane Weiner's jubilant new work, which is accompanied by live music by To All My Dear Friends. squared dancer isn't just a convergence of two dance companies; it's also a meeting of two movement styles. Hope Stone's Modern aesthetic will be seen in change is inevitable, a piece danced to Philip Glass and a yodeling recording. In contrast, the Houston Met will present works from their strong jazz repertoire, including Robbie Moore's This Expression of Surprise and Suzi Taylor's To Escape the Weight of Darkness. The company will also present There Are Things We Don't Know We Share by Houston dancemaker Erin Reck. With so much talent onstage, squared dancer is one of the must-see dance concerts of the season.
Nov. 9-10, 8 p.m., 2012
