Steel Magnolias

Before it was an Academy Award-nominated film, Steel Magnolias was an off-Broadway play. The six-woman drama about a mother, her diabetic newlywed daughter and their beauty parlor friends tackles marriage, children, widowhood and everything in between. Perfect for the intimacy of smaller theaters, Steel Magnolias’ heartfelt ending is made all the more real when you’re sitting up close and personal. The Stages Repertory Theatre production, directed by Kenn McLaughlin, features an ensemble of Houston acting luminaries, including Sally Edmundson as M’Lynn, Susan O. Koosin as Ouiser and Holland Vavra Peters as Shelby. Getting your hair done has never been so much fun. 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through August 19. 3201 Allan Parkway, Suite 101. For information, call 713-527-0123 or visit www.stagestheatre.com. $21 to $61.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: July 25. Continues through Aug. 19, 2012
