Winter is kind of a myth here in Houston, where very few people have ever seen any significant snowfall. Still, we like to pretend to a winter wonderland whenever possible, and there's no better way to do that than at the Ice on Discovery Green. The annual ice rink is offering a wonderful array of events this year in addition to all the regular fun skating you can do. Acclaimed jazz guitarist Jawad will be serenading skaters live on Tuesdays. The renaissance-man musician belts out everything from Burt Bacharach to Neil Young in a playful, cool jazz style. On Thursday nights, patrons can relax as IKEA sponsors screenings of classic Christmas movies such as A Christmas Story and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Kids are sure to look forward to the chance to skate with Santa on Saturdays. Hours vary.
