Filmmaker Kirby Dick examines a sensitive subject in his Oscar-nominated documentary, The Invisible War. The film explores the damage done to the more than 100,000 known men and women who have been screened for Military Sexual Trauma, and the oft-times apathetic system that they encounter when reporting the crime. Featured among them is U.S. Coast Guard servicewomen Kori Cioca, whose rape by a commanding officer was so severe that the doctor who treated her asked if she had been in a car accident. Her reporting of the incident was brushed aside because her commander was needed for training duty and she was told she would ''get over it.'' One in three military women reports some sort of assault, as do almost 1 percent of enlisted men. There's a question and answer session with the filmmaker after the screening.
