Some 84 galleries in 12 countries are represented on the exhibit floor. The fair has a decidedly international flair with a focus on Latin American and Asian art. Friedman says that his goal for the show is to appeal to both the city's hardcore art aficionados and the more casual collectors. ''We want the show to be hip and cool but appeal to a wider audience,'' he says, noting that prices for works, from a wide variety of media, range from about $5,000 up to $300,000. ''With a city as large as Houston, we [hope to bring] thousands of new collectors to the table.''
