Theater has the power not only to entertain, but to move the audience to a greater understanding of the world around them. That said, it doesn’t always take three acts and two intermissions to do it. NightCap Theatre presents Top Shelf Shorts, a collection of ten short plays by company co-founders Eric James and Peter Wittenberg. From the frustrations of romantic relationships to the mystery that is the father-son bond, the ten plays tackle a wide range of subject matter. Spanning both drama and comedy, these intimately crafted shorts leave an indelible impression in a short amount of time. Each play will feature Houston-area talent both onstage and off. Participating directors include Justin Doran, Tal Gribbons and Leighza Walker. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Through August 4. Obsidian Art Space, 3522 White Oak.
