You can't keep a great all-girl quartet down, and Stages Repertory Theatre has no intention of trying, as it brings back last season's hit musical, Winter Wonderettes. With its innate nostalgic appeal, the story is set in 1968 and, without unduly taxing the brain with complicated plot shenanigans, a talented girl group is determined to put the Merry in Christmas. Wonderettes writer Roger Bean didn't create the juke-box musical, but he's gone a long way toward perfecting it, with previous offerings of The Marvelous Wonderettes, The Andrews Brothers and Life Could Be a Dream. The approach pays off here with 25 never-fail Christmas classics and strong treatments from talented performers. The lineup includes classic such as ''Santa Baby,'' ''Jingle Bell Rock'' and ''Winter Wonderland,'' delivered with that great girl-group spin. Holland Vavra Peters plays Suzy, Chelsea Ryan McCurdy plays Missy, Rachael Logue plays Cindy Lou and Christina Stroup plays Betty Jean. All can sing and are vivacious indeed, under the direction of Melissa Rain Anderson. 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through December 30.
Wednesdays-Sundays; Mon., Dec. 24. Starts: Nov. 7. Continues through Dec. 30, 2012
