It's comforting to know that Texas now has another state metal band in Austin's own The Sword. Since 2003, The Sword has been working hard on the forefront of beard-metal in the same smoky vein as Sleep, although they can spin out some textured Thin Lizzy-style jams when the time is right and do it all with an undercurrent of meaty Texas flavor. The band's latest appetizer, "Hammer of Heaven," comes from the sessions for Age of Winters, the 2006 breakthrough album that put them on the map and no doubt inspired countless bands across the land to pick up the heavy dope. The quartet signed to a new record label this year, New York's Razor & Tie, and have announced a title for their new album, Apocryphon, due this fall. Keep your ears open for some of this new stuff Sunday night.
These guys are awesome and I love the new CD! So happy that it is finally out!!!
The day I get tired of seeing The Sword or Venomous Maximus live, is the day I give up metal.
