Where to Eat on Father's Day

Treat Dad to Something Sweet and Something with Meat.

Dulce Bakery & Cafe quietly shut its doors this week, as reported by B4-U-Eat. Bhojan Restaurant off of the Southwest Freeway burned down.

Now here's some good news. In honor of National Donut Day, Dunkin' Donuts plans to open four locations in the Houston area, including one on South Shepherd in the coming weeks, as noted by the Chronicle. The next three locations should open during the summer in Humble and Pasadena and at Terminal E of Bush Intercontinental Airport; now you can get your coffee and donut fix before you fly.

B4-U-Eat let us know that Araya Artisan Chocolate opened a third location on Uptown Park Boulevard last week, as did Board Game Island in Galveston, where you can play more than 500 board games, enjoy coffee, sweets and sandwiches.

In other coming-soon news, CultureMap informed us that CityCentre will be getting a soup, salad, sandwich and wrap cafe, Salata, this fall. Capital Grille will also open its second location in CityCentre this fall. With openings last week from Grub Burger Bar, Seasons 52 and Texas de Brazil Churrascaria, CityCentre seems to be expanding quickly.

After this week's brisket theft from Killen's BBQ, it seems that some people just can't wait for Killen's to officially open. Chef and owner Ronnie Killen posted pictures on Facebook of the restaurant's progress, stating that it should be completely open in about three months. For now, Killen's BBQ will be open on Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., while supplies last, of course.

The Burger Guys also announced on Facebook that a third food trailer location is coming to Beaumont. The new location should be open in less than two weeks.

B4-U-Eat's newsletter says that Hugo Ortega and Tracy Vaught have named their upcoming restaurant Caracol, which will be located at 2200 Post Oak Boulevard.

Although we lost a cupcake bakery a couple of weeks ago, two more have appeared. Gigi's Cupcakes opened a downtown location in the tunnel under the JPMorgan Chase Tower, as reported by the Chronicle. New Addiction Cupcakes also opened on June 1. The location doesn't serve just cupcakes, though; it's a one-stop shop to buy donuts, kolaches, cookies, cakes and coffee as well.

Eater also reported that Pistolero's had its grand opening last Wednesday. This restaurant serves tequila and tacos and is located at 1517 Westheimer in Montrose.

Voodoo Queen, the bar from Moon Tower Inn, is making lots of progress and seems to still be on track for the expected opening this month from photos found on Facebook.
