''Ninety-five percent of the ocean is unexplored, and the ocean covers over 70 percent of the Earth's surface,'' said Dr. Carolyn Sumners, curator of astronomy at the museum and an adjunct professor at Rice University. ''It's an unexplored world on our own planet. As a planetarium that presents exploration of outer space, it’s exciting to explore our own planet in much the same way as we experience distant worlds.'' The Nautilus will be in the upper Gulf investigating the effects of the oil spill on deep corals, then visit a shipwreck before heading out towards the Caribbean.
