Christina Levin describes Touring Taste of Dance Salad Festival 2013 as “nine hours of festival footage edited down to a one-hour-long screening.” “Even in that [short amount of] time, the feeling of the Dance Salad Festival really comes through very strongly and the movie becomes a work of art that stands on its own,” Levin, who is Dance Salad Festival director Nancy Henderek’s assistant, adds. “Some in the audience have seen Dance Salad Festival and are coming to revisit the pieces from the live performances, and some in the audience have never been to the festival and are coming to explore what Dance Salad Festival is.” As in previous years, the screening is set for the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. MFA’s Margaret Mims is happy the festival is returning this year. “We have long felt that the Dance Salad Festival is a ‘curated’ evening of dance that shares a remarkable similarity to a museum exhibition. The festival places modern and contemporary dance performances by companies around the world side by side on the same program, just as a museum exhibition places works from around the world and from different collections side by side…In both cases, the dialogue sparked by the encounter heightens the audience’s appreciation and enjoyment of the singularity of each artist’s creative vision.”
