Shen Yun Performing Arts

It's an all-new show when the classical dancers, singers and musicians of the Shen Yun Performing Arts take the stage for a nine-day stint in the Theater District. Drawing on a culture more than 5,000 years old, the troupe interprets ancient Chinese legends, imperial dramas and heroic tales through dance, theater and music. Shen Yun is literally translated as "the beauty of divine beings dancing." It’s an especially apt title, because the company includes high-flying acrobatic dancers (trained in Chinese folk dances as well as Western ballet) performing sometimes seemingly impossible feats. There’s also a classical orchestra (performing on a mix of traditional and contemporary instruments). The group's signature spectacular costumes and huge animated backdrops add to the stage spectacular. The company is world renowned and many of its artists have won prestigious international competitions, including principal dancer Melody Quin, who took home top honors in New Tang Dynasty Television’s 2012 International Classical Chinese Dance Competition, and erhu soloist Xiaochun Qi, who was singled out for excellence in the “Spring of Shanghai” International Erhu Competition.
