Mo Amer

Arab-American comic Mo Amer and his family escaped from Kuwait during the first Gulf War (or as he calls it onstage, “The Prequel”). At a young age he moved to Houston, where he soon took an interest in the vast world of performing comedy. Having worked the stand-up microphone since his mid-teens, Amer has shared his unique knack for storytelling around the world in more than two dozen countries on five continents. And now local audiences will get to see this former Houstonian return to his roots at the Improv Comedy Showcase. Those new to Amer’s work can expect biting satire about the perceptions associated with the Arab-America community and his thoughts on terrorism, politics and faith through anecdotes about Amer’s friends and family. His solo show, which covers the comic’s “wild journey to becoming a U.S. citizen,” is set to be filmed as a feature-length docucomedy.
