100 Creatives: Wayne Stevens
What He Does: To quote one of Stevens's fans who commented on a recent story...
"Wayne Stevens suffers from the Boris Karloff syndrome of being so good as a villain that it never occurs to anyone that there is an actor behind the makeup."
Stevens stars as the villain in Splatterfest winner Joe Grisaffi's upcoming horror film Dead of Knight. He plays a medieval warrior in full armor who stalks victims in a twisted quest for virtue. Previously, Stevens appeared in Todd Jason Cook's 2010 horror film Zombified. He also enjoys working as a make-up FX artist.
Why He Likes It: "The mystique. The villain is one of those people you love and you love to hate. It's a fine line between the two areas. Nine out of ten times the villains is a hero who just did something wrong."
What Inspires Him: Stevens draws a lot of his inspiration as a film bad guy from the awesome presence of Darth Vader. He is also a big fan of Gary Oldman, particularly of his performance in Bram Stoker's Dracula. Stevens also taught us something that we never knew, that Oldman directed parts of the Fifth Element. We're going to have to go back and watch that again.

If Not This, Then What: If acting was off the table, then Stevens would be working on his home or teaching history at the college level. He's an expert on many aspects of medieval history, especially weapons and arms. He crafts pieces himself as a hobby, and the suit he wears in Dead of Knight is his property. He didn't make it, though. It was a gift he bought himself after returning from Desert Shield.
If Not Here, Then Where: Stevens has many friends in Austin, including video game genius and private space adventurer Richard Garriott. If he couldn't call Houston home, he'd spend his time acting and jousting in the capital.
What's Next: Stevens will return for Zombified 2.
