12th Annual Texas Children's Hospital Kids' Fun Run

With childhood obesity a nationwide problem, it’s high time to cut out the cheeseburgers, turn off the video games and push your progeny outside to exercise in 2009. (Come to think of it, that doesn’t sound like a bad plan for parents, either...) The road to a healthier tyke can start with the Texas Children’s Hospital Kids’ Fun Run. Children ages five to 15 can participate in a noncompetitive 3K walk or run, as well as a 1K “No Boundaries” jaunt geared toward kids with special needs. An added thrill is that the youngsters will cross the same finish line as the big kids at the next day’s Chevron Houston Marathon. Participants get the usual goodie bag with a T-shirt, medal and admission to the free Kids’ Expo that accompanies the run. 8 to 11:30 a.m. George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas. For information, call 832-824-2100 or visit www.funrun.texaschildrens.org. $10 for race participants; free for Kids’ Expo.

Sat., Jan. 17, 8 a.m., 2009
