18th Annual Theater District Day

Kicking off the new performing arts season, Houston’s Annual Theater District Day features everything from a symphony at Jones Hall, to a TUTS musical revue, to world-famous jugglers the Flying Karamazov Brothers. And it’s all for free. Though the open house-style event showcases the four downtown venues and nine companies that call the Theater District home, it also gives folks a taste of behind-the-scenes life, with backstage tours and artist Q&As. “We want to get them familiar with the theater and see all the different things we have going on,” says Melissa Fitzgerald, promotions director for Houston Downtown Alliance. (Look for members of the Houston Press street team handing out free copies of our annual art guide at the Alley Theatre.) Noon to 4 p.m. Various venues. For information, call 713-658-8938 or visit www.houstontheaterdistrict.org. Free.
