Who cares if Cinco de Mayo isnt a federal holiday in Mexico? Around these parts, its still cause for celebration. And even if you dont know the historical reason for the party (it has something to do with the Battle of Puebla and the defeat of the French army), Comité Patriótico Mexicanos 2009 Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Miller Outdoor Theatre will have you feeling festive. The slew of performances, which include mariachis and Mexican folkloric dancers, begins at 3 p.m. Youll want to stick around after sunset, though, for a couple of marquee musical acts. The five young sisters of Houstons Las Fenix will play a Tejano set at 8:30 p.m., and Los Mier will close the evening with norteño from south of the border at 9:30 p.m. Given that this is all free, youd have to be pretty pendejo to miss out. 100 Concert Drive.
