A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Here’s your chance to see Main Street Theater’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The show is usually touring local schools, but it has a two-day home stand this weekend that’s open to the public. The production is funded, in part, by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts Shakespeare for a New Generation Program. That won’t mean much to you if you aren’t a stage geek, but here’s something you’re sure to understand: Main Street Theater is the only performing arts company in Texas — and one of only 40 in the country — funded by the program. See lovers fall prey to a mischievous sprite, magic love potions and fairies with a temper in a production that features modern-day dress. 8 p.m. today, 3 p.m. tomorrow. Rice Village location, 2540 Times. For information, call 713-524-6706 or visit www.mainstreettheater.com. $10 to $15.
Sat., April 4, 8 p.m.; Sun., April 5, 3 p.m., 2009
